Three cows were stranded on a small patch of grass that remained after an earthquake. They were rescued by people who dug a track to them. The stranded cows consisted of one calf and two cows. It is said that the cows were part of a group of 14 who had survived the magnitude 7.8 earthquake though many can not be found. The farmer who saved them would saved them earlier, but it wasn't clear if another earthquake was going to appear again, so he stayed put until it was confirmed. After being rescued, the cows "desperately needed water, cows don't like living without water so that was the first requirement, and I think one or two had lost calves in the earthquake so they were a bit distressed," but they are now safe, the farmer says.

After exploring the internet I stumbled across a website about how cows as big as elephants may soon purge Europe. There is a long extinct species of cows named the aurochs the aurochs grazed for 250,000 years until its extinction in 1627. Scientists say they are close to resurrecting this ancient species. In search of herbivores to maintain land areas at risk of becoming barren, geneticists began breeding aurochs descendants with similar cattle breeds in 2008 and found they could "produce animals far closer to the aurochs than we would have expected," says Ronald Goderie of the Tauros Project. Fourth-generation beasts have now been introduced in Croatia, Spain, Portugal, the Czech Republic, and Romania, with promising results. I hope giant cows do come back, they will be a sight to see!
Earth's cows number 1.4 billion, a commodity prized for protein-rich meat and dairy. Without them, no beef, no ice cream, no cheese, no milkshakes, no pizza. A whole variety of the world's food is made of milk and where does milk come from again? Even if you were a vegan, tell me if those cows aren't adorable. I never saw one in real life up close, but I find them fascinating. Imagine a world without dairy and beef. I don't find that easy.
