This week I have finished Auggie & Me, read Middle School: Get Me Out of Here! And Middle School: Big Fat Liar. I didn’t know I had kinda skipped the first book in the series so I am trying to get a copy and read it. In the meanwhile I am reading The Underdogs by Mike Lupica. I like the setting of an underestimated child who turned out to be a great player. It is made more interesting as the children try to find a way to earn money so they can revive the local football team. Meanwhile Will -the main character- meets a girl who has moved into Forbes instead of moving out of forbes that can actually throw and kick better than most boys Will has met. I haven’t gotten that far into the book but I can tell it will be interesting!

This week I have been reading Auggie & Me, which I wouldn’t say is a sequel, but more of a behind the scenes kinda book. I love how R.J. Palacio decided to try and give Julian some love as there is a thing now that is called “Keep calm and don’t be a Julian” So she decided to clear things up with Julian so he isn’t as hated as he already is. The 2 other stories included are about Auggie’s best friend Chris, and Auggie’s welcome buddy Charlotte. They have their own stories that include some of August, but more of themselves. Chris’ story had a lot more time with August but Charlotte’s story is more about her friendships. I would love to see another one of these books with perspectives of Ximena Chin, Savanna, Ellie, Amos, Maya, Henry and Miles and all the other characters that I pay more attention now that I know 3 more perspectives. It’s fun to imagine what the other characters might be thinking when another sees things from a different way. My favorite part is when Julian’s grandmother tells Julian a story about herself, and now I see Julian in a completely different way.
This week I decided to start reading The Underdogs by Mike Lupica. Over the week I have read the Explorer comic books. I think they are extremely interesting and I love how every comic is based off a different perspective of the main topic to write about ex: The hidden doors, the mystery boxes, and the lost islands. I like the different drawing styles and ways to try and tell the start of an interesting story and also ways to tell a lesson.
This week while rereading The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase I realized that Wendy Mass had included a reference about her first book, A Mango-Shaped Space. When the main characters were on a camping trip, the characters of A Mango-Shaped Space had made an appearance. Carrying the same names as the main characters of A Mango-Shaped Space, the girl named Mia revealed she has an intelligence called synesthesia. I also found out that another easter egg, from Wendy Mass’ other book, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, Jeremy Fink had made an appearance.
This week I have read and reread those shoes many times. It is a really good book, because it really goes into depth about what you want and need. My favorite part in the book was at the end when Jeremy remembers he has brand new boots that nobody has worn before, and in winter you need boots over shoes. The book teaches more than one lesson. You don’t have to go through so much to just fit in, when it’s better to stand out, and you sometimes have to let go, as shown when Jeremy gives to shoes to Antonio. Those shoes is and always will be a great book.
I was reading The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase by Wendy Mass. It really goes in deep about the candy maker's relationship with one another. I would say I read about 200 pages this week. I love how the characters reveal more and more about themselves but kinda keep the old self in them like when the rest of the group just found out Daisy's top notch technology their mouths were literally 1 foot away from each end (top to bottom). I chose the book Flora and Ulysees (I think that is how it is spelled) by Kate DiCamillo. I chose it because I wanted to reread it and I remembered all the social issues in it and I wanted to get into a deeper meaning of the book. Hope to find some exciting things in the book! Also I love the imagination of Kate DiCamillo with the super squirrel.
I am currently in the middle of The Candymakers and The Great Chocolate Chase by Wendy Mass. The storyline is just as unexpected as the first book The Candymakers by Wendy Mass. A whole new world has opened up for chocolate as a mysterious contract found in a box full of Sam Sweet's (Logan's grandfather) stuff given by one of his friends named Frank Griffin includes something about mysterious beans and how the following people who signed it will hide its existence. The gang sets out to find the bean's origin and a whole lot is revealed in the process. The Candymakers and The Great Chocolate Chase by Wendy Mass is certaintly a surprise to me.
I have just finished Saving Mr. Terupt by Rob Buyea. I love the complete different perspectives of one another. I find it interesting to see how each person sees life from their eyes. This was certainly a lot more interesting then the first book as a lot more happened. I plan to read The Candy Makers and the Great Chocolate Chase next.
This past week I've been reading a book that I bought for $7.99 at the EMS book fair! The book is none other than the final book in the Mr. Terupt series...Saving Mr. Terupt! The series has been a favorite of mine. I am currently on page 222 out of 367. I hope to finish my remaining 157 pages before Monday so I can start the other book I bought at the EMS book fair.
This week I reread Amulet Book 7: Firelight. I was wondering if I would get more from the book when I reread it. I think part of it was because it was a comic book, but I didn’t really get anything new from rereading it. I like how the author ends the book at the right parts to make it more of a cliffhanger than other parts. Sure, I’m frustrated about what happens next in the book, but I must say that he does the cliffhangers really well.
