This week I have been reading Auggie & Me, which I wouldn’t say is a sequel, but more of a behind the scenes kinda book. I love how R.J. Palacio decided to try and give Julian some love as there is a thing now that is called “Keep calm and don’t be a Julian” So she decided to clear things up with Julian so he isn’t as hated as he already is. The 2 other stories included are about Auggie’s best friend Chris, and Auggie’s welcome buddy Charlotte. They have their own stories that include some of August, but more of themselves. Chris’ story had a lot more time with August but Charlotte’s story is more about her friendships. I would love to see another one of these books with perspectives of Ximena Chin, Savanna, Ellie, Amos, Maya, Henry and Miles and all the other characters that I pay more attention now that I know 3 more perspectives. It’s fun to imagine what the other characters might be thinking when another sees things from a different way. My favorite part is when Julian’s grandmother tells Julian a story about herself, and now I see Julian in a completely different way.

This week I decided to start reading The Underdogs by Mike Lupica. Over the week I have read the Explorer comic books. I think they are extremely interesting and I love how every comic is based off a different perspective of the main topic to write about ex: The hidden doors, the mystery boxes, and the lost islands. I like the different drawing styles and ways to try and tell the start of an interesting story and also ways to tell a lesson.
This week while rereading The Candymakers and the Great Chocolate Chase I realized that Wendy Mass had included a reference about her first book, A Mango-Shaped Space. When the main characters were on a camping trip, the characters of A Mango-Shaped Space had made an appearance. Carrying the same names as the main characters of A Mango-Shaped Space, the girl named Mia revealed she has an intelligence called synesthesia. I also found out that another easter egg, from Wendy Mass’ other book, Jeremy Fink and the Meaning of Life, Jeremy Fink had made an appearance.
This week I have read and reread those shoes many times. It is a really good book, because it really goes into depth about what you want and need. My favorite part in the book was at the end when Jeremy remembers he has brand new boots that nobody has worn before, and in winter you need boots over shoes. The book teaches more than one lesson. You don’t have to go through so much to just fit in, when it’s better to stand out, and you sometimes have to let go, as shown when Jeremy gives to shoes to Antonio. Those shoes is and always will be a great book.
